Singapore Angelfish

Often referred to as the Vermiculated Angelfish, the Singapore Angelfish exhibits a butterflyfish-like body shape. It features blue lips and a yellow nose that abruptly transitions into a black vertical band across the eyes, creating a mask-like appearance. This black band is bordered by a thin yellow stripe, followed by a broader white band that contrasts against the predominantly black body. The dorsal and anal fins are trimmed with a vibrant sapphire-blue, and the caudal fin is usually yellow, though it can sometimes appear gray.

Because it requires specialized care, the Singapore Angelfish is classified as Difficult. While some individuals acclimate easily, others may hide and refuse to eat. To promote success, provide a quietly situated aquarium with non-aggressive tank mates, abundant hiding places, and a minimum capacity of 120 gallons. Including live rock for grazing further enhances their environment. Note that the Singapore Angelfish may nip at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles, and it will graze on microalgae, filamentous algae, and diatoms.

Hermaphroditic in nature and difficult to breed, the Singapore Angelfish does not display distinct color variations between males and females. In captivity, their diet should include mysis shrimp, finely shaved frozen shrimp, and other protein-based foods
